Centers of Excellence
Amplifying the impact of our research by leading and contributing to multi-disciplinary research centers
Multiple collaborative research centers are headquartered at UT and led by our faculty. These centers, which are funded by the National Science Foundation, the US Department of Transportation, and the US Department of Energy, focus and streamline research objectives across multiple institutions.
TEAM TN: Technology Enabled Advanced Mobility
TEAM TN is a first-of-its-kind statewide mobility coalition. Funded by the National Science Foundation and led by UT, it is made up of more than 100 academic, industry, technical, community, and economic development partners. Together we are developing and commercializing new transportation technologies, attracting new businesses and investments to the state, and preparing Tennesseans for good-paying jobs.
Center for Freight Transportation for Efficient and Resilient Supply Chain
UT is leading five other institutions in this university transportation research center, funded by the US Department of Transportation. Together we address challenges in freight transportation system design, planning, operations, and innovations. The partnership is built around research, education, workforce development, and technology transfer activities that will benefit state, national, and global supply chains.
Center for Ultra-Wide-Area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks
Led by UT, CURENT is a self-sustaining collaboration between academia, industry, and national laboratories. Researchers are focused on the critical role that electric power and transmission systems will play in achieving an energy future that is simultaneously economical, low-carbon, secure, and resilient. This includes the challenges and opportunities of shifting vehicles from combustion engines to electric motors that connect to the grid.
Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation
IACMI–The Composites Institute is a partnership of industry, academic, and governmental organizations on a mission to accelerate the development and adoption of innovative composites manufacturing technologies. IACMI inspires research across a variety of new and existing applications, including ever lighter, more efficient, and safer vehicles.
